Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and immense Lake Victoria. Its abundant wildlife includes chimpanzees as well as rare birds.

Uganda is the pearl of Africa because of its Beauty, Its Natural Wonder and its Welcoming People!
Sir Winston Churchill

The remote Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary. Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest is known for its 43m-tall waterfall and wildlife such as hippos. The country is also recognised as being one of the most hospitable in the world.

Our approach and focus areas

  • Our income and job creation programs promote entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, focusing on traditional livelihoods and emerging opportunities within the blue and green economy.
  • In promoting gender equality, we ensure that women and girls have access to education, employment, and leadership opportunities, empowering them to become drivers of change in their communities.
  • We also integrate climate-smart practices into our initiatives, helping communities adapt to climate change while protecting the environment.
  • Additionally, we champion inclusion by ensuring that marginalised and vulnerable groups including refugees are not left behind, advocating for equal access to resources, opportunities, and platforms to amplify their voices.

For the 2024–2028 strategic period, we are partnering with local organizations and other private sector partners to strengthen the resilience of poor and marginalized communities in West Nile, Acholi, and Busoga sub-region.

Our Key Programmes

We have two main Programme interventions:

  1. Inclusive Quality Education and Lifelong Learning
  2. Income Generation and Job Creation

Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)

Our ECCE program supports children aged 3–12 years, focusing on school readiness for preschoolers and strengthening learning outcomes across the full primary cycle.

  • Re-enrollment of out-of-school children, especially in refugee settlements.
  • Competence Development for ECD Educators and Lower Primary Teachers and caregivers
  • Functional and learning assessment for learners with disabilities.
  • Promoting play-based learning, parents’ involvement, school feeding and practices using school gardens.
  • Improving school infrastructure and school governance bodies.

Bonga - Empowering adolescents

Our Bonga Programme empowers out-of-school adolescent girls with literacy, life skills, and entrepreneurship training, enabling them to continue their education or start businesses.

  • Four-months Life skills training
  • Re-enrollment of 13-15-year-olds in school.
  • Child-care support to promote young mothers’ participation
  • Age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health education
  • Menstrual Hygiene practices: reusable pads making and liquid soap

Vocational Training (CVET)

The Community Vocational Education and Training (CVET) Programme builds on the Bonga Life Skills training by equipping youth aged 16–19 with practical skills for employment and self-reliance. After a month of business, entrepreneurship, and career guidance training, participants are supported to choose marketable trades based on market demand and personal interest. They then receive hands-on vocational training lasting three to six months.

Alongside technical skills, the programme promotes climate-smart practices such as planting fast-growing trees for energy efficiency and establishing backyard gardens to strengthen food security. Graduates are assessed, certified, and supported with startup kits to create opportunities for self-employment and sustainable income generation.

Through CVET, young people gain the skills, confidence, and resources needed to access dignified work and contribute positively to their households and communities.

Financial Inclusion (CMSG)

Community Managed Savings Groups (CMSG) Programme strengthens financial inclusion by enabling community members, especially women and youth, to save, access credit, and invest in income-generating activities.

Producer groups (SPG)

Savings and Producer groups (SPG) Stromme Foundation supports the growth of Savings and Producer Groups, which evolve from mature community-managed savings groups after completing a 9–12-month cycle. These groups strengthen both financial inclusion and household food security.

Members commit to consistently saving, open formal bank accounts, and register with local government. They also work collectively on at least three acres of land, moving from subsistence farming toward market-oriented production.

Through multiplication gardens and income-generating activities, groups adopt and scale climate-smart agriculture practices such as sustainable crop production, soil conservation, and water-efficient farming. This improves yields, builds resilience to climate change, and ensures food security.

In addition, members lead community food security advocacy campaigns and encourage households to develop their own plans for better nutrition and livelihoods.
