Girls from the Masai Mara Leadership school

Kenya is one of the fastest growing economies of East Africa, with a coastline facing the Indian Ocean and tourism as a driving force. It encompasses savannah, lake lands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley, and mountain highlands. It is also home to such wildlife as lions, elephants, and rhinos.

From the capital Nairobi, safaris visit the Masai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildebeest migrations, and Amboseli National Park, offering views of Tanzania's 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro.

With a promising future for the nation, the country still grapples with issues of corruption, poverty, unemployment, the unequal distribution of income and resources, as well as ethnic conflicts. The nation is also host to the second largest slum in Africa, Kibera, located in Nairobi.

Our approach and focus areas

  • Stromme Foundation Kenya is partnering with Basecamp Foundation Kenya (BCFK), a not-for-profit trust working with marginalized Maasai communities around the Naboisho Conservancy, on the edge of the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve
  • For nearly 15 years, we have partnered with local communities to create sustainable solutions in education, empowerment, entrepreneurship, and energy
  • We believe lasting change happens when communities are empowered to lead their own development
  • With headquarters in Nairobi and a field office at the Biotisho/Green Center in Talek Township, Narok South Sub-County, BCFK is uniquely positioned to link innovation with grassroots impact

Transforming Lives in the Maasai Mara.

Strømme Foundation remains committed to shaping a future where:

  • every Maasai girl has the chance to complete her education
  • women are empowered as decision-makers and entrepreneurs
  • communities thrive on clean energy, safe water, and sustainable practices
  • the Maasai Mara’s people and environment grow stronger together

Together with our partners, we are creating a future where communities live with dignity, opportunity, and sustainability.
